Frequently Asked Questions

What is the legal tyre tread?

The legal treat depth minimum is 1.6mm.

How do I check my tyre tread?

You can check your tyre tread by using a 20p coin. If the tread does not reach the inside of the border of the coin, the tyres are too bald.

What tyre pressure should my tyres be?

The ideal pressure is between 30 and 34 psi for cars. It can vary depending on manufacturer recommendations though.

How far can you drive on a flat tyre?

As a general rule you can drive maybe 100 metres on a flat tyre before you begin to damage the wheel itself, and maybe another 100 metres from there before you begin to damage the suspension and other components. Needless to say we do not recommend this under any circumstances. If you are very close to a garage and the puncture is quite slow, you can sometimes pump the tyre and limp to the garage, but it is usually easier and safer to get it towed or use the spare wheel.

How many miles do tyres last?

On average, tyres last between 30,000 and 60,000 miles. Tyre tread levels are one of the most common ways that drivers receive tickets from police stops. For some unfortunate drivers, each bald tyre will earn them three points on their licence, and with twelve points they then receive a driving ban, and all the hassle that entails. Likewise for a driver involved in an accident, a tyre with insufficient tread is often considered a huge factor against them. Our tyre fitting services are here to help prevent anything like this, and with us, you can have inexpensive, suitable, and road-safe tyres for many thousands of miles to come.

Tyre fitting and balancing

We have all the equipment and knowledge to make sure your tyres and wheels are correctly aligned to manufacturer standards, and will perform as they should.

Have the right tyres for your car

It is of course highly important when replacing tyres that they are properly fitted and balanced for improved safety and performance. Our skilled team use specialist machinery to ensure all tyres and wheels are correctly aligned to maintain optimum economy, grip, and handling. An imbalance or misalignment can cause increased wear, vibration in the steering, and increased fuel consumption. We will make sure the tracking on your tyres is precise and as it should be.
